A.R.T. Wave Fundraiser

A.R.T. Wave Fundraiser
A benefit show & party:
Come to an evening of artful community to raise funds for Brian ”Hakiym Sha'ir” Simpson, a Black father, firefighter, community leader, and poet who was wrongfully incarcerated for defending himself against a racially motivated physical attack while on the job in Josephine County, Oregon. A.R.T. Wave is an opportunity to bring our community together, and, in the words of Hakiym, “create transformative change at the intersections of race, class, and gender so that this senseless violence will not be perpetrated against anyone else for being different.” The night will include Hakiym's poetry and story, local poets and music, food, raffle baskets and silent auction items from local businesses and artists, and more! Ways to get involved in Hakiym's campaign as well as petitions to sign will also be available.
Some of the amazing performers are Xicana poet, artist and community organizer Manya Yana Campos; poet and musician Lilith Andromeda; Hannah Mayree of Black Banjo Reclamation Project; musician and community organizer Lxor; and cumbia group Los Mapaches. A.R.T. Wave will be hosted by the ever talented Micah Blacklight and feature words from B.A.S.E. Southern Oregon (a nonprofit community organization that provides events, community information-sharing, connection, support, and resources that work towards the well-being and advancement of Black residents living in Southern Oregon).
