Missing Hupa woman a reminder of issues facing indigenous women

Emmilee Risling

No one has reported seeing Emmilee Risling since the middle of October.

That would be a concern in any circumstance, but there's greater concern because Risling is a member of the Hoopa Valley Tribe, and Native American women are murdered and go missing at higher rates than the general population.

The Hoopa Valley, Yurok, and are all working with the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office on efforts to locate Risling. And the Yurok Tribal Court has an ongoing project to focus attention on MMIWG2 (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two Spirit People).

Judge Abby Abinanti from the Tribal Court is our guest.

Anyone with information on Emmilee Risling is encouraged to call the Hoopa Valley Tribal Police at 530-625-4202.
