The latest federal figures show more than 47 million Americans receiving "food stamps," the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
But that number is already smaller than a year earlier.
Few people celebrate the reduction, because it has less to do with life circumstances improving than with Congress simply voting to cut the program. We hear from about the current status: roughly 800,000 people using Oregon Trail (Cal Fresh in California)... and many find that the amount is not quite enough to cover a month's worth of groceries.
