As Hayfork And Hyampom Sigh, Weaverville Braces

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26, 11 AM ... Just as firefighters gain 55 to 90 percent containment on 4 of 5 fire complexes in Trinity County, a new fire has erupted just two miles west of the county seat of Weaverville. 

The Democrat Fire is located off Democrat Gulch Road near Oregon Mountain. Like the River Complex Fire in Denny it is very close to Highway 299 which remains open at this time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Mandatory evacuations still in place for the west side of Oregon Mountain down to Highway 299. Voluntary evacuations for Steiner Flat Road in Douglas City. 

Red Cross Shelter: First Baptist Church, , Weaverville

Gusting winds are causing the fire to spot ahead of itself. Communication towers on Oregon Mountain are still threatened. 

Road Closure: Oregon Street at Democrat Gulch to the top of Oregon Mountain.

A Public Meeting will be held TONIGHT, 6 PM, at the on Highway 96. 

Protection is holding along Highway 299, at the historic Ironside Mountain Lookout, and also near the village of Hoopa. 

Denny Road will be open from Highway 299 to Quimby Creek, 9 am - 3 pm daily, for local residents only. 

A lingering high pressure ridge is expected to dissipate and result in less stable atmosphere. Inversions are also expected to lift earlier in the day. This is expected to result in more fire activity.

There is concern over an increase in gusting winds as the Johnson Fire remains active along its southern perimeter.

As noted above there is a Public Meeting TODAY, 5:30 PM, at the Ruth Lake Guard Station. 

The Gobbler and Pickett fires show little activity and are in patrol status. 

The Lassic and Johnson fires are still active and are expected to experience gusty winds today.
