Approximately 1000 acres of Greater Sage-Grouse General Habitat Management Area (GHMA) burned. The fire burned in a mosaic fashion with numerous green spots within the fire perimeter, leaving a good amount of sage-grouse habitat unharmed. Yesterday an aerial flight confirmed zero reported or observed injuries to wild horses, wildlife or livestock in the fire area.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 6, 2 PM - While most of the wildfires currently burning in northern California are concentrated in heavily forested western counties, several fires have burned close to 16,000 acres of mostly grass and sagebrush in the eastern part of the state, including a fire responsible for the sole fatality of this year's fire season.
The , in far west Modoc County, has burned 4,782 acres as of Thursday morning, but is 75% contained. The fire continues to threaten high voltage power lines and two natural gas pipelines as well as a USFS lookout tower. The lightning caused fire began July 30th and has not burned any structures. USFS firefighter David Ruhl was killed while surveying, the only fire-related death reported this year in the region. Several roads and campgrounds remain closed. More information .
The , also in Modoc county, has burned about 70 acres east of Lava Beds National Monument. Crews have quickly contained this fire, which was started by lightning earlier this week. More information .
The , in eastern Lassen County, was sparked by a saw from a tree harvesting project on Monday. The blaze has grown to 11,400 acres, and is 25% contained. No structures are threatened by the fire, but officials say important sage grouse habitat has been destroyed. More information .
