Fire season is only a week old, and Rogue Valley residents are already asking "where's the fire?"
The answer: near Bend. Oregon Forestry confirms that the smoke pall hanging over the Rogue Valley blew in from the northwest of Bend, which had covered more than 6,000 acres of land by Sunday morning (June 8).
The fire forced some evacuations and evacuation standby warnings, with more than 200 structures in the potential path of the fire.
Winds from the north blew the smoke into the Rogue Valley early Sunday. from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality showed good conditions despite the smoke.
Gusty winds from the same weather system prompted a for western Shasta County on the California side. A Red Flag warning means winds are up, humidities are down, and the conditions are ripe for wildfires to spread quickly.
The warning is confined to the eastern portion of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, and remains in effect through Monday afternoon (June 9).
