Southern Oregon University will move ahead with plans to cut programs to save money.
On Thursday, SOU administration released plans for "retrenchment"--cutbacks in academic programs that allow the elimination of faculty jobs.
Tough budget conditions forced the plans to cut, and a prioritization process laid out a blueprint for what to cut.
Majors in physics, art history and international studies are all targets for elimination, with potential savings of millions of dollars. 12 or more faculty positions could be cut if the plan is adopted.
SOU points out that some of the majors to be cut graduated one or no students in the last academic year.
