Roseburg Eatery Defies Governor's Pandemic Directive, Is Fined By OSHA

A Roseburg family restaurant is facing a roughly $14,000 fine for re-opening its dine-in service, against Governor Kate Brown鈥檚 stay-home directive.

Oregon OSHA leveled the fine against Casey鈥檚 Restaurant last week. State documents say owners willfully disobeyed the order, and put workers at risk when they opened on May 5 th

The report also says workers were in close proximity to customers, not outside the 6' distance recommend by health officials.

OSHA placed a notice on Casey鈥檚 entrance three days later. The restaurant continued seating customers for dine-in service.  The owner has been issued a willful violation for $8,900, and a $5,000 violation for failing to comply with OSHA鈥檚 warning notice.

Douglas County began Phase 1 re-opening on May 15th, ten days after the restaurant opened.

An employee who answered the phone at Casey鈥檚 said the owners are not commenting. On their Facebook page, one person said they should start an online fundraiser to pay the 鈥渞idiculous鈥 fine.

The owners can also appeal it.
